Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is a tendinitis (inflammation of the tendon) of the extensor muscles of the forearm. The condition is when the outer part of the elbow becomes painful and tender. It may be caused by a sudden injury or by repetitive use of the arm. The most common activities which affect this area are bending the wrist backwards (extension), turning the hand palm side up, and lifting an object with the elbow straight out.
