Industry: Medical
Situation:
HUI’s customer had completed much of the
original design of an innovative medical exam
table for use in hospitals and clinics. But some
manufacturability, quality, and supply chain
issues remained to be addressed.
Options:
1. Customer completes design and manages supply
chain
2. HUI completes design for manufacturability
and develops quality criteria for other parts
(castings, moldings, machined, powder-coated
items)
3. HUI manages supply chain of all manufactured
parts to allow customer time to work on other
priorities
4. HUI manages supply chain, assembles product
and drop ships to customer or end user.
Solution Provided:
The customer employed HUI to complete design and
develop quality criteria for all manufactured
parts. After completing the final design and
improving the manufacturability of the product,
our engineers developed quality criteria to be
used on all parts needed to be powder-coated.
After reviewing the costs, our customer employed
HUI to manage the entire supply chain for the
items that were to be manufactured.
This allowed our customer to
concentrate on developing new products instead
of writing purchase orders and receiving a
multitude of parts.
Results:
Saved approximately
$400/unit
Eliminated additional
purchasing by the customer in sourcing and
expediting activities
Eliminated inventory of
castings and other manufactured items at the
customer Improved efficiency and flow by
identifying and implementing quality standards
at each aspect in the supply chain.
